Position Summary

MGO is seeking an experienced Assurance Senior Associate to join our growing Government Services practice. This role will focus on audits of state and local governments, tribal governments, tribal enterprises, and casino and gaming entities.

As an Assurance Senior Associate, you will work on complex audit and assurance engagements involving governmental accounting, federal compliance requirements, tribal operations, and highly regulated gaming environments. The ideal candidate will have experience applying both Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) accounting standards, depending on the nature of the entity being audited. You will collaborate directly with clients, oversee engagement execution, mentor staff, and deliver exceptional service while developing specialized expertise in government, tribal, and gaming audits.

Responsibilities

• Lead audit engagements from planning through issuance, including risk assessment, budgeting, fieldwork, and quality control review.
• Perform and supervise audits of state and local governments, tribal governments, tribal enterprises, and casino and gaming entities.
• Execute audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Assist with Single Audits and testing of federal grant compliance under Uniform Guidance.
• Apply and interpret accounting standards under both GASB and FASB frameworks, depending on client type and reporting requirements.
• Review work performed by associates and provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional client service.
• Monitor engagement progress, budgets, billing, and overall efficiency to ensure timely completion.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and value-added recommendations for clients.
• Stay current on governmental accounting standards, federal compliance requirements, tribal governance considerations, and gaming industry regulations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of public accounting experience in assurance services.
• Experience auditing state and local governments, tribal governments, tribal enterprises, casino and gaming entities, or other highly regulated organizations preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• CPA license preferred, or CPA eligible and actively pursuing certification.
• Working knowledge of Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), GASB, FASB, and Single Audit requirements.
• Experience with governmental fund accounting, tribal enterprise reporting, gaming industry audits, and federal compliance engagements is highly desirable.
• Strong project management, analytical, communication, and client service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience supervising and mentoring staff preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $90,000 - $110,000
